Hi Michael, Gary and Orlando,
Thanks a lot for your responses. A special thanks also to Mark Hawling who sent
me a few pages of sheet music via email.
All the responses are way over my head. So please let me explain why I want this.
First of, I am not a musician, nor do I play a musical instrument. I have been
a Frank Zappa fan since the early 70's.
My 14 year old son Dimitri, has been playing acoustic violin for 8 years. He
also has been playing the electric violin for about a year now. And most
recently he has picked up the guitar. He has been doing that for about 5 months
now.
He enrolled in classes with the Paul Green School of Rock Music
(
http://www.schoolofrock.com/index.htm) here in San Francisco. Part of the
lessons there is that the students get to perform concerts in tribute to various
rock bands. Most recently the students of the school have performed tributes to
ACDC, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, and Queen. A
concert in tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival is coming up. All of this is
part of the regular routine at the school.
A few days ago, the director of the school announced, that he wanted the more
advanced students to audition for a Special Event (outside of the normal routine
in which everyone gets to participate). The special event will be a tribute to
the music of Frank Zappa. For the audition the students who were invited to
audition have to play the first two minutes of Inca Roads on what they consider
to be their strongest instrument. If they play more than one instrument they
get to play the first two minutes on all their instruments.
Some of you may be familiar with the movie "Rock School"
(
http://www.apple.com/trailers/newma...ol/medium.html), in which the
original Paul Green School of Rock Music is documented. The most advanced
students of the school get to travel to Bad Doberan in Germany and play at the
annual Zappanale there. One of the songs they played there to great acclaim was
Inca Roads. If you did not see the movie, rent it, it's awesome, and a great
tribute to FZ.
Dimitri, who has been a FZ fan since age 6, is now very nervous about the
upcoming audition. He really wants to be part of the group that will play the
special event. He feels that with sheet music of Inca Roads he will have a
better chance of mastering the first two minutes, and do well at the audition.
The audition will be October 21. Purposely, the director did not want to give
the kids a lot of time to prepare.
So that is why I posted a request for sheet music for Inca Roads. All your kind
responses do not really help me, because I do not know how to do any of the
stuff you guys suggest. I do not know how to "repurpose MIDI data into music
notation", although I can imagine what it does. I don't know what to do with a
statement like "notating quintuplets as multiples of 64th notes". And "1200
ticks per beat in any sequencing package", makes me really nervous.
We did find an Inca Roads tab at
http://www.911tabs.com. We were able to open
this after downloading and installing Power Tab Editor 1.7. This file did give
him a lot to start with. I wonder if there is other stuff available that might
be of value to him to learn and practice Inca Roads.
As before, any and all tips are warmly appreciated.
Later,
Abrasha
